Alright guys\gals what do you use for a hunting/pack knife? I've got the outdoor edge set that I've used the last few years with great results and just recently purchased a Havalon Piranta folding knife for field dressing. It uses surgical scalpel blades so when it gets dull no sharpening just replace the blade, super lightweight and extremely sharp.

Good thread. I'm in the market for an all around knife to keep in the jeep.

Hmmm...i hate to say it but I haven't dedicated a knife to my hunting pack.  I daily carry either a CRKT m-16 or a Benchmade griptillian and always have a leatherman handy at my work desk.

Havalon is hard to beat. Just be careful changing blades. The only down side I have experienced is getting aggressive with heavy boned animals and breaking the tip. I also carry a Knives of Alaska Alpha Wolf fix blade that has always treated me well.

For the money, CRKT knives a hard to beat. I've had a couple of their smaller ones over the years and always felt the quality far exceeded the smaller (generally) price tag.

Same setup I have except my benchmade is a griptilion (or however the hell you spell it)

I don't plan on using the Havalon for anything but skinning and boning meat out, I don't think the blade on it would handle joints to well.

P309 needs this one for the Jeep. I've heard some of his trips to the mall have gotten way out of hand!

Had a Kershaw for a while until the blade lock failed and sent a buddy to the hospital via the Loomis mobile.  That'll put a damper on a clam diggin' trip in a hurry next to frying the electrical in the travel trailer (thats a whole nother' story).  The Kershaw got donated to the local pond, its probably rusted to bits.....

The mall restrooms are pretty tough territory these days. Gotta have protection against getting shanked in the showers.

Out hunting, I've carried a Gator folder and a Kershaw Echo fixed blade knife. I just added some of the Gerber Vital knives and some more Gator knives to the setup so hopefully I'll get to use them next time I'm out.

EDC, I carry the Gerber Order folder. Great little knife designed on the EZ-Out platform.
