Let's say I had a used h&s xrt pro tuner.  Can I simply remove it from one truck and put it in another truck?  It's on a 07 dodge 6.7 auto and the new truck is a 07 dodge manual.  School me!

Your suppose to be able to return to stock on old truck, and install to a new truck.... without problems.

What are acceptable egt levels?  I have read from 1200 to 1500.

Yes. Depending on who you ask and where the temp probe is located. It's like asking what size tire a Dana 44 can handle.

Brings up another good point.  Do I drill and tap or buy a egr delete and use the hole provided?  If you drill and tap where do you drill?  I don't know much about these trucks but I do know I don't want to blow a head gasket or melt the thing down.

Mine is right in the manifold as well, it's also in front of the exhaust port on the head. I run up 1400 degrees on stock settings but not much more than that. Max I have seen is about 1450-1470.

Stock I could get 1400+ towing hard. People without gauges are doing it all the time they just don't know it. How many meltdowns are out there on stock trucks?

That's what made me decide to get a egt gauge.

Stock to tow setting on mine doesn't really affect my overall temp. Just affects how fast it gets there...

My tow setting doesn't seem to make that much more power to be honest.  The race setting is crazy though

Ok so I will be the first to admit that I know nothing about diesels.  I installed a egt last night and that went smooth.  I set my egt warning at 1300.  No big deal.  If I put my chip in "performance" mode my egt temps hit 1500 as soon as you floor it.  Like crazy fast.  Is this normal?  It doesn't do that in tow or street mode but I have not had a egt while towing.

No performance mode for me. I am slipping the clutch in tow so no point in race settings.

I know there is no point I am just wondering if something is wrong.  I honestly plan on leaving it in "tow" mode always.  I was simply checking things out

Did some research on my lunch break seems to be normal.  The way I understand it is the more fuel the higher egts.  So black smoke equals higher egts.

Yep. When I had the Edge on the Dodge, I would see it spike around 1200 and then drop to around 980 or so when the boost would build up and stabilize the mixture. Without the Edge, I'm all stock so I just hammer down and don't worry :)

EFI live is the way to go on 06 and newer trucks. go with a reputable tuner's off the shelf tunes and your EGTs will be A LOT lower than smarty or edge.
