Maybe Polaris will end up owning the world before Trail Gear does.

Polaris Industries Inc. said Wednesday it will acquire Transamerican Auto Parts, a maker of accessories for Jeep and off-road trucks, in a deal worth $665 million.

The Medina-based company said in a statement that the deal would complement its existing accessories business and would be accretive to earnings (excluding accounting costs and the costs of the acquisition itself) starting this year.

Compton, Calif.-based TAP, a half-century-old company that owns brands such as Trail Master, Pro Comp and Rubicon Express, had approximated $740 million in sales in the 12 months ended Sept. 30.

“This transaction is consistent with our long term strategy, provides us an immediate leadership position in a growing market, and allows us to accelerate Polaris’ growth," said Polaris (NYSE: PII) CEO Scott Wine.
